The Sheridan County Board of Commissioners met in regular session and by zoom at 9:17 A.M. on June 8, 2021. Zoom ID 3358213334 Passcode 625274. Present were Chairman Loren Paul, Comissioners Bruce Messersmith and James Krotz, Deputy County Clerk Geri Ann Landreth and Treasurer Renee Thies. This meeting was posted on the official county website and published in the Sheridan County Journal Star on June 2, 2021. Messersmith made a motion to accept the agenda. Krotz seconded the motion. All voted aye. Messersmith made a motion to approve the minutes of 5-25-2021. Paul seconded the motion. With a roll call vote, Paul and Messersmith aye and Krotz abstained.
Tina Skinner, County Assessor met with the board and advised that in last month’s claim to GWorks she took the $9,476.00 out of the Assessor’s Fund and it should have come out of the Appraisal Fund. The County Clerk is able to correct this with a journal entry, before the end of the fiscal year as long as she has their approval. Krotz made a motion for this correction . Messersmith seconded the motion. With a roll call vote all voted aye.
At 9:20 A.M. Bev Wellnitz, GIVE Administrator met with the board to give her report. Discussion was held on her preparation of her budget. Bev advised of several things she’s been getting done. GIVE received a Community Garden Grant. She’s working with area children in planting of a garden. She has added an area to the tourism website that shows upcoming events, public information, etc. You can view this web-site at visitsheridancounty.com
Bev advised that the tourism board will be holding a meeting next week and will be working on a new travel brochure.
At 9:40 A.M. Richard Cross, Road Superintendent met with the Board. He advised that he will be in Lincoln next week for a workshop on pre-Road Superintendent Exam Seminar.
Discussion was held on the Tallon Gravel Pit.
Richard advised that a Cummings engine in the Freightliner was not working and is no longer running. Discussion was held and it was decided that Cross would request to surplus the truck at a future meeting. He advised that either the end of June or the first of July they will start working on the Obermiller Road and in August they will start on the Gordon airport bridge.
At 10:00 A.M. Jonnie Kusek director of the Sheridan County Transportation Program met with the board. Jonnie advised that she was able to check out the space out at the annex and was very satisfied with it and thought it would work out fine. The board approved the use of the office space out at the annex to be used by Sheridan County Transportation Program. She advised that the vehicle titles will be transferred over to Sheridan County on July 1, 2021.
At 10:22 A.M. Jeff Davis, Building and Grounds Administrator met with the board. He advised that the Courthouse cleaning contract has been signed. Also he advised he will be gone the week of the 21st. of June.
At 10:35 A.M. Jeff Brewer, Sheriff met with the board. Due to the staff shortages the cost of overtime on both the law enforcement and correction budgets will be adjusted.
At 10:45 A.M. Tim Brewer met with the board and presented the board with a service agreement for wildlife control. The board delayed action on the proposal until they can visit with USDA supervisor Jerry Feist at the June 22, 2021 meeting.
At 11:00 A.M. Jeremy from MANNA called and visited with the commissioners. The board decided to end the IT service agreement with MANNA Systems effective June 30, 2021. So now each office and department will be allowed to secure IT services from a provider of their choice. They will need to adjust their budget to reflect a line item of IT services.
