New faces join Gordon Chamber of Commerce with hopes to take organization to new heights

A changing of the guard of sorts has happened for the Gordon Chamber of Commerce. And the new faces are looking to make an immediate positive splash on the community of Gordon.

Cassie Craven has taken over as President of the organization and she has a few individuals with deep ties to Gordon joining her on the Board.

Donald Hlava is the Vice President, Valerie Mann is the Secretary, Helen Ianniello is the Treasurer, Richae Malara is the Director, and McKenzie Harrison is the Community Outreach Coordinator.

New faces are apparent on the Board but the goals remain the same; help to serve and improve the community of Gordon.

“I hope to lead the Chamber in the direction of service to our businesses and community. Our community survives and thrives with our kids and helping connect our businesses with the businessmen and women of tomorrow is key,” said Craven.

Donald Hlava, who is serving as the Vice President, shares the same sentiment as Craven. He hopes that the Chamber can benefit local businesses and the community alike.

“The function of any chamber is to act as a conduit between an business community and the community at large. The new leadership of the chamber wish to promote out local businesses and the interaction they share with Gordon residents,” said Hlava.

For the Director Richae Malara, she is most excited to try to breath life back into some of those buildings on Main St. that need a bit of TLC. She has a strong desire to continue the growth of Gordon through its Main Street.

“I’d like to see new life to Main Street. Get those closed doors open and get people able to enjoy an even bigger list of options here in town,” said Malara.

McKenzie Harrison, who is the Community Outreach Coordinator, is excited to get things moving on the events side of things.

“Events provide an opportunity for members to connect with each other and the community. The importance and value of events for a chamber of commerce cannot be stressed enough,” said Harrison.

The Chili Cookoff is an event that they hope to expand this year along with hosting Santa for pictures following the Parade of Lights. 

There is hope to engage in several city beautification projects as well and philanthropic possibilities to feed the hungry in our area.

“The chamber has the ability to give the town a facelift, increase collaboration and growth among businesses, and help residents in need,” said Helen Ianniello, Chamber Treasurer. 

“When people realize what a great place Gordon is to live, the population will increase leading to more businesses opening up and more opportunities for its residents,” added Ianniello.
