Gary Muck, age 78, passed away September 19, 2023. He is survived by his life partner of 25 years, a step-daughter, 2 sisters, a brother-in-law, and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Gary was born and raised in Gordon, Nebraska. He graduated from Gordon High School in 1962 and went on to college in Wyoming. His college was cut short by the military. He served as an Army medic in Vietnam. On his return he did a variety of things including working the family farm, working and running a dental lab in both Nebraska and Colorado, Backpacking across South America, teaching convicts dental lab skills at the Lincoln State Penitentiary on a rehabilitation project. He was an activist in the Civil Rights movement and maintained his passion for equality throughout his life.
Gary loved people and animals. He was honest and caring. He loved to laugh. He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and was interested in everything. He had a way of making you feel like you were the most important person in the world by the way he listened. He loved unconditionally and gave his all. He was a hard worker and would never quit. When things got tough you could count on him to show up and help. He was an optimist. He believed anything was possible and had a way of making you believe it too. The question wasn’t why but why not! Let’s give it a try. Let’s figure it out. And he would hang right there with you each step of the way!
Gary is loved and missed by many whose lives he’s touched. He left a little piece of himself in each of our hearts that we can use as a beacon to guide us.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. September 30, 2023 at Mount Hope Cemetery, Gordon, Nebraska with a reception to follow at the Gordon American Legion Post 34.
