James LaVern Hankins

James LaVern Hankins passed away on May 1, 2020, at the age of 78.  He was born on December 2, 1941, in Rushville, Nebraska, to Jim and Violet (Eckerle) Hankins.  He graduated from Hay Springs High School in 1959.  Upon graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Bachmann on June 4, 1961.  With this union was born two daughters: Karla and Kim.  

LaVern began employment at Northwest Rural Public Power in 1966, where he filled many roles during his 38


Mary Yvonne (Krueger) Olson

Mary Yvonne (Krueger) Olson, 79, of Rushville passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff.

Mary was born the third oldest child of Ralph and Ruby (Lymath) Krueger on August 26, 1940, in Alliance.   She was the younger sister of John and Fred and later became a big sister to Calvin, Bill, Ruby and Leta.

Mary worked at EHR from 1974 until 1977, there she met her true love Roger Olson, who won a bet with Ruby when she said yes to go on a date with


Patricia Ann Deckert

Pat was born December 30, 1941, in Coos Bay, Ore., to Michael and Mildred Kearns. She passed away April 27, 2020, in Rapid City, S.D. 

Pat married Don Deckert February 19, 1961, and they had been married for 59 years. With this bond they had four children—Curtis, Laura, Bob, and Sis, Mike Deckert who was like a son to them. They had ten grandkids and 21 great grandkids. 

Pat worked for the South Dakota Social Services for 35 years and made many friends throughout her years


Merelda Dreyer

Merelda Dreyer passed away on April 10, 2020, in Gordon, Neb., of natural causes.

She was born February 23, 1929, in Canova, S.D., to Herman and Elsie (Koepsell) Zulk.  She grew up in Canova, S.D., where she attended school through the 9th grade.  The lack of a high school diploma was rectified when she proudly received her GED in 1989 through Western Community College.

Merelda married Wallace Everett White and they had three children: Sara, Howard and Carl. They later


Donald L. Coon

Donald L. Coon, age 96 of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, died on April 7, 2020, at Scottsbluff.

The family has chosen to have a Memorial service, but will be held and announced at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.bridgmanfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either The Residency or to Bridgeport Fire and Rescue.

Don was born on November 2, 1923, at Gordon, Nebraska, to Arthur and Jean (Park) Coon. He attended the Albany school and graduated from Gordon High


Mike Riggleman

There’s very few men who loved the outdoors the way Mike did.

He passed on the passion of the great outdoors down to his son and grandchildren with camping trips, late night bonfires, fishing, hiking and stories of how he fought fires all over the country as a Strike Team Leader and Probeye Operator (Wildland Fire Suppression). In the last years of his life, he was often found soaking up the sun, working in his garden, and making gallons of his sought-after salsa.

Temple Joan “Hink” (Ostrander) Halverson

Temple Joan (Ostrander) Halverson was born March 25, 1953, to Fern and Melvin Ostrander in Gordon, Nebraska. She passed away on March 13, 2020, at her home in Gordon.

Better known as “Hink”, she joined a family of six siblings. In 1955, triplets were born to Fern and Melvin, boosting the siblings to ten. She attended Gordon Elementary School and graduated from Gordon High School in 1971. She enjoyed her high school years as a cheerleader, Girl’s State Delegate her junior


Kenneth George Tausan

Kenneth George Tausan of Ogallala, Neb., died Sunday, February 2, 2020, at the North Platte Care Center in North Platte, Neb.

At the time of his passing Kenneth was 81. He was born on June 20, 1938, in Rushville, Neb., to Kenneth C. and Joella Waddill Tausan.

Kenny was a true cowboy, one of a kind and very much a part of a dying breed. He filled his 81 years with adventure, art, friends and family.  He could do just about anything, and did during his story filled time on earth. From

Jeanne Elizabeth Moss, age 92, of Gordon, Nebraska passed away on February 29, 2020 at Gordon Country Side Care with her daughters by her side.

Jeanne was born June 28, 1927 to Edward and Marvel Burke at Oshkosh, Nebraska.  She was the third of 3 children.  She grew up on the family ranch south of Oshkosh, Nebraska between the Platte River and the bluffs.  She and her siblings attended a rural country school. Doris Joan (Gottier) Tiensvold

Doris Joan (Gottier) Tiensvold was born June 10, 1939, in Rushville, Nebraska, to Marie and Earnest Gottier. She passed on Feb. 25, 2020, in Missoula.

She married Vernon Tiensvold on Oct. 20, 1955. Doris and Vernon started their family in Rushville, Nebraska, and then moved to Great Falls in 1965.  Doris enjoyed working at the nursing home and then was self-employed.  Doris and Vernon moved to Missoula, and eventually to a twenty acre farm in Arlee. She enjoyed gardening, playing


Carol Sue (Dye) Compton

Carol Sue Compton 84, formerly of rural Jonesboro and Tipton, died Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at Howard Regional Hospital in Kokomo. She had been a resident of Century Villa in Greentown for the several years.

Carol was born in Marion, Indiana, on December 29, 1935, daughter of the late Paul and Dorothy Emma (Sheedy) Dye. She graduated from Fairmount High School in 1953. Carol married Philip G. Compton on March 18, 1956. Phil preceded her in death on August 13, 2014. Carol worked as a

Norma was born in a sod house northwest of Gordon to Eldred Sr. and Ehrma Reeves. Norma passed away February 22, 2020, at Gordon Memorial Hospital. She attended grade school at White Lodge School District #86, and graduated from Gordon High School in 1947.

She married Norman Davis on January 19, 1948, in Rushville, Neb. They lived in the Rushville area until 1951; they then moved to a farm northwest of Batesland, S.D., and then later into Batesland. Four children were born to this union, Merna
