Robert "Bob" Ehlers

Robert "Bob" Ehlers of Benson, Arizona, passed away on August 2, 2012, at the age of 77.

Bob was born in Gordon, Nebraska, on July 30, 1935, to George and Phyllis Sipp. He attended country school in the Sandhills until his family moved to Warroad in 1948. He was a 1952 graduate of Warroad High School before serving in the United States Army for approximately nine years.

Harold Lee Glassgow

Harold Lee Glassgow, 79, of Lakeside, Nebraska, passed away at his home in Gordon, Nebraska, on September 1, 2012.  He was born October 10, 1932, in Conway, Iowa, to Ernie and Alice (Ross) Glassgow.  He attended Dallas Center No. 5 country school near New Market, Iowa, and graduated from New Market High School in 1952.

Myrtle “Murt” White Letcher, 80, a lifelong resident in Sheridan and Box Butte counties, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2012 at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance, Nebraska. 

Murt was born in Box Butte County October 16, 1931 to Bill and Cora Dorris (Peeler) White. Harold R. Burton

Harold R. Burton, 69, of Hay Springs, died Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Box Butte General Hospital.

He was born in Alliance on March 2, 1943 to Charles and Ida (Gray) Burton. He grew up on the family ranch north of Bingham. Harold was a graduate of the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis, NE and the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

On May 25, 1990 he was united in marriage to Agnes M. Garity. 

Harold worked as a financial director for the Nebraska State Labor Department

Virginia Harris Hugen, 78, of Gordon, Nebraska died August 30, 2012 at Regional West Medical Center, Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

She was born June 1, 1934, in Gordon, Nebraska to Tug and Josephine Palmer. She graduated from Gordon High School and on March 9, 1955 she married Donald Harris. Five sons were born to this union. Donald died September 18, 1876. Virginia then married Bennie Hugen on September 11, 2003.

Beulah (Bea) Hitchcock, 93, of Fort Gratiot, Michigan, died August 29, 2012, with her family by her side at the Port Huron Medilodge Nursing Home.  A graveside service was Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Hay Springs Cemetery in Hay Springs, Nebraska with Pastor Fred Andersen officiating.

She was born October 30, 1918, in Anthon, Iowa to Oscar and Nellie Coon. She was raised by her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Marie Peters.

Sidney Lynn Hilliker, 95 of Gordon, Nebraska, died Sunday, August 26, 2012 at Gordon Memorial Hospital. He was born October 28, 1916 in Centerville, Iowa to Clayton and Esther (Giesler) Hilliker. Joann Wilsey (Johnson), 77, of Hay Springs was born on February 16, 1935, on the family farm southwest of Hay Springs and died on August 29, 2012, at her home.

Charles Gates Pfeiffer, 92, of Columbia, died Sunday, August 26, 2012.  Born in Gordon, Nebraska, on December 9, 1919, he was a son of the late Otto George Martin Pfeiffer and Velma Gates Pfeiffer.   Mr. Pfeiffer earned his BA degree from John Fletcher College, his BD degree from Drew University, and went on to pursue advanced degrees at George Peabody College for Teachers and Vanderbilt University, among others.   He was passionate about educational travel and led numerous western history

Donald D. Sandoz, 83, died Monday, August 13, 2012, at Box Butte General Hospital.

He was born August 19, 1928, on the family’s home place at Hay Springs, Nebraska to Constant and Mathilda (Petersen) Sandoz.
