Laird E. (Tom) Kockrow

Laird Eugene (Tom) Kockrow was born on March 11, 1940, to Raymond and Lillian (McFarland) Kockrow at Fairbury, Neb.  He went to be with God on August 28, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. 

His family moved to Hay Springs, Neb., in 1942, where they lived on the east side of Walgren Lake until they purchased the farm northeast of Rushville in 1945. Tom attended Rushville Public School and graduated in 1958.  He was a several sport athlete and was honored as

Funeral services for Melvin Charles Krotz, 66, were held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2019, at St Joseph Children’s Home Chapelwith The Reverends Bill Baker and Diane Carlton officiating. Carol Lynn Hankins

Carol Lynn Hankins, 58, of Hay Springs passed away on August 22 in North Platte.

Visitation will be August 27, at 7 p.m. at the Rushville Methodist Church. 

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. August 28 at the Rushville Methodist Church with Pastor Paul Smith officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements are by Chamberlain-Drabbles Mortuary.

Craig Bannerman, age 72, died July 31, 2019, in Leesburg, Fla. Craig is survived by a sister LaRee Bannerman, N.Y, five children: Beau Douglas Bannerman, Calif., Bree Ahna Bannerman, Ga., Bret Michael Bannerman, Mass., Cory Anthony Bannerman, Ga., and Todd Anthony Bannerman, Fla., and two granddaughters: Olivia Bannerman, Wash., and Talia Elise Bannerman, Calif. Lisa Wells

Lisa Wells, age 45, of Bellevue, Neb., died on August 21, 2019, in Madison, S.D.  

Memorial service for Lisa will be held at 12:00 p.m. on August 31 at Sandoz Chapel of the Pines Funeral Home, 90125 Hatchery Rd, Valentine NE, followed by internment in Mount Hope Cemetery, Valentine. Marybell Johnson

Marybell was born on December 17, 1927, at home, to Herman and Isabell (Lehman) Wellnitz. She passed away August 20, 2019, at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home. Marybell grew up helping her father driving teams and planting crops. She walked or rode her horse Snip to grade school every day. When Marybell was in 6th grade, Clayton Tallon was starting 1st grade. The teacher would lift Clayton up and he would ride behind Marybell to the Comer hill, slide off and go the rest of the way home. After school


Marda “Jill” Wagner Gealy

Born December 18, 1938, in St. Catharine’s Hospital, McCook, Neb., to Henry Fredrick Wagner and Cleo Marie Kile Wagner. Jill died and went home to her Lord and to her husband, surrounded by family and friends on August 16, 2019.

Mary “Beth” Peters

Mary “Beth” Peters, 78, third daughter born to Francis A. and Helen P. (Vanderloop) Peters was born in Hay Springs on April 24, 1941. She died in her home in Chicago on June 28, 2019.

Mary attended school in Hay Springs where she graduated in 1959. Mary the attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing in Omaha and graduated in 1963.

Mary worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital for a year. She then went to New York City and worked at St. Luke’s Hospital for two years.



Edwin Paul Pascoe

Edwin Paul Pascoe, 76, of Merriman, entered into eternal rest on July 24, 2019.

Ed was born at home to Homer Henry and Frances Bernadine (Donner) Pascoe on February 4, 1943. He was the 5th child of 11. They lived on a farm north of Wall, South Dakota, where Ed grew up. Being the eldest boy, Ed ran the farm during the times his dad traveled to California for harvest. Rita Faye Luscher, 80, of Gordon, died Saturday, July 20, 2019, at home.

Rita was born to Rufus Harry and Orva Evelyn (Whitson) Roberts on August 12, 1938.  She was the fourth child of six: Ruth, Alice and Rob to later be joined by Virginia and Glen.  They lived on a farm just outside of Waterman, IL where she grew up.

Dr. James F. Panzer

James Frederick Panzer was born July 2, 1940, to Veta Premer Panzer and Dr. Harold J. Panzer in Omaha, Nebraska. His parents were both medical professionals in Bassett, Nebraska, and he was named after his maternal grandfather, Dr. James Frederick Premer, of Benkelman, Nebraska. His parents met at Methodist Hospital in Omaha where his father was an intern and his mother was a nurse. At a young age he was involved in hunting, fishing, carpentry, chemistry, photography, trapping, and gardening

Kenneth Robert Reutter age 60 passed away quietly at his home August 1, 2019.

Kenneth, also known as Ken or Kenny was born October 29, 1958. At the age of three he was adopted by Robert and Hazel Reutter along with his brother Keith, they joined a sister, Kristine in Crawford, NE where they lived until 1964. At that time the family moved to Gordon, NE where Ken graduated from Gordon High School in 1977.
