Hawks off and running in 2023 at Morrill Invite

The Hay Springs Hawks began their 2023 campaign with a meet hosted by Morrill High School on Friday, March 24.

The schools moved up the date due to the impending weather and were able to get the full meet in.

A bevy of athletes got their first taste of action in 2023 for the Hawks, with multiple individuals finding the podium in their respective events.

Leading the Hawks was sophomore Dylan Raymer. Raymer was the only top finisher for the Hawks, finishing in first place in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.62 seconds.

Raymer also picked up a third place finish in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 46.31 seconds. This was a personal best time for Raymer.

Senior Mia Skinner made her return to the oval with a strong showing in the 800 meter race.

Skinner ran a personal best time of 2:48.29 and earned a second place finish.

Skinner was also one member of the 4x800 meter relay team that also earned a second place finish. She was joined by Samantha Toof, Mya Turman, and Gabby Twarling on their time of 11:35.51.

Other top finishers for the Hawks included:

3200 meter race: Parker Wellnitz, 12:03.87, third place, personal best.

100 meters: Gage Mintken, 12.12 seconds, fourth place.

200 meters: Gage Mintken, 24.90 seconds, fourth place.

Long Jump: Gage Mintken, 18-03.50, fifth place, personal best.

Triple Jump: Cutter Scott, 38-01.5, fifth place, personal best.

400 meters: Samantha Toof, 1:12.03, fifth place, personal best.

800 meters: Gabby Twarling, sixth place, 2:52.78.

The team will now prepare for their next competition which is scheduled for Bayard on Saturday, April 1.
