Barker, Laws notch top ten finishes in Gering

By Scott Bidroski

Another week and another strong showing for the young men and women on the Gordon-Rushville Cross Country team.

Junior Rylie Barker and freshman Luke Laws each finished in 9th place respectively to lead their teams to 4th (girls) and 10th (boys) place finishes.

If you are keeping track at home, the 9th place finish by Laws is his second in a row this season.

And of course, nothing worth working for ever comes easy.

According to Head Coach Amy Schmidt, Laws shoe fell off for the last 100 yards of the race. This last 100 yards of the race was all rock, making for a very painful finish.

She notes that they will work on double-knotting their laces in next week’s race.

Barker was the lead runner on the girls side but she had plenty of support.

Freshman Ashlyn Dehning would finish in an impressive 11th place and senior Tyrah American Horse would finish in 19th.

Junior Iris Clark ended up in a strong 33rd place to round out the team scoring. This placed the girls team in 4th overall.

The Middle School also competed on the day and they had quite a bit of success as well.

Brittney Dehning would pick up a 3rd place finish and her teammate Kynsleigh Krebs was right behind her with a 5th place finish.

The Middle School Girls finished in 6th place overall as a team.

The third meet of the season is ready to rock on Friday, Sept. 8 in Chadron. The festivities will begin at 11:00 a.m.
